Privacy policy

Last updated 2026-10-19

This policy explains how SA Biz Directory handles personal information, in line with South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).

What we collect

Listing submissions. The business details you enter on the listing form, any logo you upload, plus the name and email of the person submitting it. Business details and the logo are published. The submitter's name and email are not published — they are used to contact you about the listing.

Email correspondence. If you email us, we keep the message and your address so we can reply.

Why we hold it

Published business details are held to operate the directory — that is the purpose you supplied them for. Submitter contact details are held to verify listings and answer queries.

Who we share it with

Nobody. Listing data is not sold, rented or supplied to third-party marketers. Published listing content is, by design, publicly visible on the site and to search engines.

Maps

Map tiles are served by OpenStreetMap, which will see your IP address when a map loads, as any website you load an image from would. Street addresses are converted to coordinates once, when a listing is saved, and the result is cached on our own server — your browsing is not sent anywhere for that.

Your rights under POPIA

You may ask what personal information we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for your listing and associated details to be deleted. Email info@sabizdirectory.co.za and we will action it.

Cookies

The public site sets no tracking cookies. A session cookie is used only in the private admin area.

Retention

Listing data is kept while the listing is live. Declined submissions are deleted within 90 days.

Security

Submissions are transmitted over HTTPS and stored on the site's hosting account. No system is perfectly secure, so please do not send sensitive personal information — identity numbers, banking details — through the listing form. We never ask for it.
